Land of Kaldalangra cover reveal

It started out as one book, expanded to tell the "ever after", and then began to bring in the next generation. The Land of Kaldalangra has taken many twists and turns since it began with the publishing of The Lady of Steinbrekka back in 2012, and that now includes a full make-over!

When I started writing The Lady of Steinbrekka, I never realized that it would become a series, and the same happened with Heart of Kylassame, and Soul of Asimina. About the time I started working on the fourth book (hopefully to be out in 2016 or 2017) I realized that this wasn't going to end any time soon, and it was time for it to look like a series.

I had such a great time working with Donna Dull of Sharp Designs (the same cover artist who did Finding Keepers) and she really did a great job of making the covers feel like a series, but still keeping pieces of the originals that I loved so much. It will also be much easier now when I release the next couple of books  (not for a little while though) to make them continue with the beautiful covers.

Presenting, the new look for The Land of Kaldalangra series!

These will be available for purchase at UtopYAcon in Nashville June 18th - 21st 2015, and are also available on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com

    Excerpt ~ Gwen

His lips were softer than I’d ever imagined, and I’d imagined them a lot. At least once a day since I turned thirteen, maybe more.

I brought a hand up to touch his cheek gently, worried that too much movement on my part would bring him back to reality, and he’d pull away.

I could taste beer on his breath, but I didn’t mind. He moved closer, his hand on my back drawing me in so our chests touched. I took a sharp breath at the contact, amazed at how good it felt.

This was the first time I’d kissed, or touched another guy since that night with Brad at his party, but it was apples and oranges in comparison. With Craig I didn’t have one second of doubt, I knew I wanted his lips on mine, and now that I’d had a taste, I didn’t know how I’d ever be able to go back to the way things used to be.

I hoped he felt the same.

“Can I touch you, Gwennie?” Craig asked, his hand at the hem of my t-shirt.

His breath against my ear caused goosebumps to break out over my sensitive flesh.

“Yes,” I responded, my voice barely a whisper.

His hand was cool against my heated stomach and I shivered as he ran it up towards my breasts, which became heavy in anticipation of his touch.

Cover Reveal - The Spiral Ascended

*Personal endorsement* I LOVE the first book in this series (and am getting around to reading the other two, I swear, there's just NO TIME) so I am super excited to share that book 4 in the Spiral Defender Series is going to be out soon! Check out her gorgeous cover and make sure to keep an eye on that release date!

Title: The Spiral Ascended (Spiral Defenders Series: Book Four)
    Author: Erin Danzer
    Genre: Young Adult Scifi/Romance
    Publication Date: September 12, 2014
(look at that beautiful date, less than a month away!)

    Blurb:

Everything seems perfect now that Ronnie is married. She can be crowned and finally defeat the evil that infests the Spiral.

Until Rick and the Irradians seize the castle.

Now, Ronnie and Gavin are in hiding. They must amass an army from those still loyal to them and protect their friends and family—all without leaving their refuge. When Ronnie ventures out, Gavin is captured. Their bond is severed. All Ronnie knows is that Gavin is still in her heart.

    Until that breaks, too.

Ronnie must find the strength to ascend to her destiny and defeat Rick or risk losing everything forever.

    Excerpt

It was Ronnie’s turn to blush bright red. “I haven’t really wanted to,” she admitted. “Plus, there’s the whole ‘no door’ thing that bugs me. It’s not like you guys can call first to make sure you won’t interrupt something.”

“I can help with that,” Gem exclaimed and jumped up from the bed as Katja laughed.

“You obviously haven’t looked too closely in that bag I packed you,” Katja teased Ronnie. Ronnie waved her off, her words barely registering as she watched Gem. The elf stood in front of the opening into the rest of the cave, studying the rock formations that created it.

Then, Gem raised her arms and said something in a language neither girl understood. Ronnie and Katja screamed a moment later when the ground shook beneath them. Ronnie’s eyes widened with fascination as the opening shrunk to the size of a wooden door, which also appeared. She looked in awe at Gem as the elf collapsed back onto the bed a moment later. Dust and small rocks rained down from the ceiling as everything settled into the new formation.

“Princess,” Gavin called, his voice frantic, before he and Will burst through the door into the newly created room.

“What was that?” he asked. Ronnie grinned up at him.

“Gem gave us a door,” she replied.

“A door?” He turned and looked at it, his dark eyes taking in the new structure of rocks and wood.

    “Yes, a door.”

    *****

The blast came out of nowhere. Ronnie barely had time to brace herself before the blue energy hit. Her sword flew from her hand, leaving Ronnie defenseless. She called upon the elements, concentrating on the gremlins’ spears. The weapons cracked and broke all around the room. Gremlins screeched as they scrambled for new weapons. Ronnie tried to reach out to fling a fireball, but nothing happened. Panic flared within her. Instead of the energy that always tried to escape after a blast, cold numbness swiftly moved through her.

Gavin! She screamed in her mind. Instantly, he was there, hacking through the goblins that blasted her, thinking if they died the paralysis would fade. No such luck. He got through the last of them, and still, Ronnie couldn’t move. She saw him glance behind her even as he lifted his sword to deflect the spear of another gremlin. The wave seemed nonstop. Ronnie desperately tried to move, but her body wouldn’t listen.

You need to use my magic, she thought to Gavin.

Are you sure it will work?

    We have no choice.

Ronnie pushed her powers at him through their bond. Andi and Shawn huddled against her back as Gavin let loose a gale-force wind in the room. Gremlins and goblins screamed and grunted as they flew off their feet. Before they could recover, Gavin threw fire at them. Screeches and growls filled the room as most of the creatures burned. The ones left created a portal and jumped through it before Gavin could get to them.

As soon as the last Irradian disappeared, the paralysis broke. Ronnie stumbled forward with a gasp. Andi and Shawn reached out to each grab an arm to keep her on her feet. Gavin immediately took her into his arms, crushing her against his chest. After a moment, she pushed back to an arm’s length and his hands ran down her body, looking for injuries. Ronnie pushed his hands away, ignoring the way they made her feel. She couldn’t think about that right now.

“I’m okay,” she declared when Gavin continued his perusal of her body. When his eyes wouldn’t stop searching, she reached up, cupped his face in both hands, and forced him to look at her.

“I’m okay,” she repeated with more force this time. Relief poured through her as Gavin gathered her into his arms once more. She only stayed there a moment before turning to her friends. Andi huddled in Shawn’s arms, her blonde curls bouncing as she shook. Ronnie reached out and put her hand on Andi’s shoulder.

“Are you guys hurt?” she asked. She had no idea what to say. How could this even happen? Anger filled her veins as she thought about Rick trying to take her two best friends from her. How dare he!

“No,” Andi said, her voice small. She turned wide blue eyes up to Ronnie. “How did they find us?”

Ronnie clenched her hands into fists as she struggled with the anger steadily building within her. If she didn’t calm down, she would teleport again, but she couldn’t let this go unanswered. Rick needed to pay. They needed to hurt him worse than he almost hurt her.

    Finding Keepers Cover Reveal!

What do you get when you combine the writing of Kristi Strong with the digital talents of Elizabeth Sharp? A brand new cover of awesomness!

Finding Keepers is Kristi Strong’s first Young Adult novel, and first non-fantasy novel.

    Story Blurb:

Starting a new life is never easy, but Alyssa Doe has turned it into an art form. Abandoned by her parents at age twelve, four years in foster care has taught Alyssa how to get through life the hard way.

Now sixteen and growing desperate for a stable life, Alyssa finds herself puzzled by her newest keeper, twenty-five year old Jessica Sona. A feisty woman who does not accept no for an answer, Jessica’s insistence on safety, family, and unconditional love begin to break down Alyssa’s walls and bring her hope, a dangerous emotion.

Can such a thing as family and love exist for a girl whose birth name is Doe, or will Alyssa be forever left finding keepers?

    Excerpt

“None of us stand a chance,” Alyssa mumbled as she pushed her eggs around.

Jessica looked up from her plate, but remained silent, giving Alyssa time to process her thoughts.

“The rules made sense,” Alyssa said, glancing up at Jessica, the lack of surprise on the woman’s face confirming that some of the memories had fallen from Alyssa’s lips as she relived the past, along with her reading Alyssa’s records. “I get it, especially now. The alarms were to make sure no-one snuck over to the other bedrooms, or tried to run away. A couple of the teenagers tried, because they were lonely, I guess. They didn’t even realize when Jenna did it, because she disabled the alarm, until they found the pregnancy test she stole from the pharmacy and questioned the boys ... The obsession with cleanliness and order a necessity, because with eight children in a house, things would become chaotic so quickly.”

She felt a tear trickle down her cheek and rubbed it away angrily. “But I was just fourteen. I wasn’t trying to be bad when I set off the alarm. I just had a nightmare and was so scared. They didn’t believe me though, and so they sent me away the first chance they got.”

“Do you still have nightmares?” Jessica’s voice was soft, low, her gaze on Alyssa’s hand holding the fork, the trembling causing the fork to vibrate the eggs where it rested.

Alyssa nodded. “Every night. The police car comes for me, and ... ” The words were strangled, as if her heart was pushing them out, while her head was forcing them back in. Confessions were dangerous, ammunition to use against you in group therapy, proof that you were not right in the head and needed more intensive care, institutionalized care.

“Alli,” Jessica’s hand slipped over Alyssa’s where it lay on the table, trembling like a leaf. “My door is always open, no matter if it is day or night. You don’t have to be alone in the darkness anymore. I’m here now, and forever.”

    Excerpt:

The rubber swing creaked as she swung, cold twilight air rushing against Alyssa’s face as she gave Brianna time to find the words to describe her feelings. A creak sounded from the swing beside her, and she heard Brianna take a deep breath.

“I don’t know what to do, Alli.”

“About what?” Alyssa glanced at her, noticing that her friend had dug a small hole in the dirt under the swing, and now sat with her cheek pressed against the chilled metal.

She shrugged, the herringbone pattern of her thick wool coat rising and falling with the motion. “Everything. School. Friends. Life. It’s just so damn hard, and I don’t know why. Sometimes just breathing is such a struggle.”

Alyssa remained silent a moment, pushing her swing back and forth with her feet, trying to find the right words to help.

Brianna wiped away a tear and leaned back in the swing. “You know what, it’s stupid. Just pretend I didn’t say anything. Everything is fine.”

“Hey,” Alyssa gently pulled on the chain of Brianna’s swing to bring her closer. “If it has you this upset, then it’s not stupid. Definitely not nothing, which means it’s something. And you are totally not fine right now.”

“I have no right, none at all, to talk to you about life being difficult.” She gave a bitter laugh that turned into a sob and swatted at another tear that dropped from her eye. “That’s what makes it harder though. I have absolutely nothing to complain about, and yet ...”

    “Bri,” Alyssa began.

“No!” she interrupted. “I know it’s true. I have two loving parents in a committed marriage, and a big house, and pets, and a room filled with clothes, and pretty much anything I ever wanted, within reason. I’ve never had to worry about having food to eat, or clothes to wear, or boys touching me without permission. It’s not like I’m rich, and going to be driving a Benz or anything, but I know that when I get my license I’ll have a car to drive and parents who will let me drive it and be able to call it my own.”

Brianna paused, and Alyssa could see the metal chain shaking from the trembling of her friend’s body. She reached out and held out her hand, palm up, in the air next to her. Brianna reached out and took it, linking her fingers with Alyssa and holding tight, as if it were a rope ready to pull her to shore.
