Guest post by Devyn Dawson!

Today I would like to welcome our guest poster, Devyn Dawson! Who is going to tell us all about her new book (coming in only 1 month!), Killing Me Softly.

Killing Me Softly - A Broken Souls Novel
June 2014

Hey everyone, I have a new book coming out in June.  I'm so excited for this book to get in your hands!  It is a New Adult book about a girl who was always told to stay away from military guys.  Her dad lived in fear that one day a military guy would come along and break her heart.  I grew up by Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma and we were always warned about military boys.  I met my husband 22 years ago while he was stationed at TAFB.  This story isn't about anyone I know, but it's about everyone I've ever met.  Not everyone is given the chance to live a charmed life, especially Holland.  Read below for the synopsis of this dear to my heart book.  Not every guy in the military is a killer, or angry, no, there's so many good guys looking for a good girl.  I know, because I found one.

Please do me a huge favor and add it to your TBR list on Goodreads and share on Facebook.  It is how authors like me get the word out!  Thank you so much!!!

Facts – My best friend died six months ago. My mom bailed on me when I turned 13. My dad is mentally ill and a permanent fixture on our couch. We live on his disability and my meager paycheck. I take online college courses so I can work full time to pay for the electric bill. I’ve fallen head over heels for Tate Cook, he’s in the U.S. Air Force.

I’m Holland Clifford, I’m 19, and this is my life.

Once upon a time, I was whole… and then I was shattered. Tate’s picking up my pieces and putting me back together again.

About the Author

Devyn Dawson is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Currently, she kicks up her boots in the lush green town of New Bern, North Carolina.  She attended Oklahoma State University where she studied business.  Growing up, she was considered the eccentric girl.  She wrote dark stories, celebrated Halloween like a national holiday, and burned candles before they were trendy.  The very moment she watched Kiefer Sutherland in Lost Boys she vowed to run off with him one day.  Real life took over and she got married and had two amazing children.  In her spare time and great weather, you’ll find her on the back of her husband’s motorcycle touring North Carolina.  Devyn is an avid reader, she has given up Stephen King and reads mostly young adult books.  She writes young adult paranormal books about werewolves, vampires and faeries.  She loves happy endings, but offers twists and turns to get to them. Devyn has decided to dip her toe in the big-girl pond and write some books with just the right amount of steam and twists the fans won’t see coming.

Creative tables for an author signing, take 1!

I only have 3 more days to prepare for my time at the Cascades Library 2nd Annual Authors Fair and I'm excited and terrified and omg I'm never going to be ready! Or something like that. I've been trying to find different ways to be prepared, to be friendly, to have an awesome table, and there's actually surprisingly little out there.

Oh sure, there are a lot of great articles on having a successful signing, which sum up to : be friendly, connect with potential readers, don't hide under the table (crap). But there isn't a whole lot out there for how to actually design a table!

Here's my table last year, and I don't think it's bad for having 5 minute set-up time and only one book out (at that time). But it's also not very exciting. It was a perfect reflection of "me" at the time, a little scared, a lot shy, not quite ready to bust into the author scene and go "Hello readers, I'm here!"

But I've grown a lot in the last 10 months, and I'm hoping this year's table can have a little more bang and pizzazz. So I've looked for inspiration from author's I look up to, people whose tables have no problem saying, "Hello readers, come discover your next favorite book!"

A table shared by the wonderful authors Andrea Heltsley and Elizabeth Sharp. I love all the book covers in the background, and the fun table accents.

Another one of Andrea's tables. Nice and orderly, with her books on beautiful display.

A table by Bethany Lopez, a great example of really standing out even if in a smaller space

This table is highting the work of Devyn Dawson and Tressa Messenger. They actually put boxes under the table cloth to get the books to go higher. *smacks head* Why did I never think of that?

The wonderful Elaine Fields Smith! I love how everything on this table ties into her books, set in the 1980's, from the cars to the 8-track tapes!

Want to just highlight one book? Lisa Collicut is a great example for this. While there is only one book being shown on this table, there is no doubt that you should go over and get it!

Screw the candy bowl. Liz Long gives her readers cupcakes! One for me, please!

Here is Sarah Ashley Jones, and how can you not want to go talk to a person with that smile and bright purple hair? Another great example of a small space set-up done well.

The first joint signing with Ashley Lavering and M.R. Polish.

And Ashley Lavering's side of their table at UtopYA. I love the purple banner that they have and the tablecloth. So gorgeous.

There you have it, a ton of different ideas for you (and me) to use when planning author signing events! After the Cascades event and my guest speaking position at Brian Woods High School next week, it's time to collaborate with the amazing Elizabeth Sharp for our joint table at the Live Hope Believe event in August!

Cover reveal- Amber's Faerie Tale

You asked for it, you've got it...Amber's story!  If you haven't read Enlightened, it is recommended to read that book before reading this novella.  As a matter of fact, if you haven't read it...don't read the synopsis of this book....or pay attention to the title.  By continuing to read, you're taking it into your own hands that you're reading a spoiler.  Don't write me and say you had no idea and now you're scarred for life.  Nope, you can't say those things.

You're reading at your own risk.  I'm warning you to turn your eyes and run and read the first two books before going any further.

Amber, the sassy sidekick to Jessie Lucente has met her match the day she meets bad boy Thorne.  They've gone on a few dates, but Thorne is Jessie's guardian and he has a mission to protect her at all cost.  He's able to handle Amber's sarcasm and dishes it back, to her dismay.  They are just learning how to juggle dating and Thorne's guardian schedule when Amber is abducted during a school dance.
'
Amber knows her abductors have a schedule, and if she isn't rescued before time is up, she'll die.  She doesn't fear death, she fears the pain it will cause her friends and Thorne.  When Amber's brother died she thought of nothing else but taking her own life, but knew how much it would hurt her family.  The only problem now is she has something and someone to live for; but she refuses to fear the end.

This isn't a love story full of sweet kisses and adoring teens, so if you're looking for that kind of faerie-tale, read about Jessie and Caleb.
