Life of an Author - Bethany Lopez

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an author? I've rounded up a few authors from the Indie world to let us in and sew what their lives are like behind the scenes.

First up, the talented and dedicated Bethany Lopez!

1) How long have you been writing with the intent of publishing?

3 1/2 years

2) Where do you write?

I currently write at a tiny handmade desk against the wall in my dorm room, but, at home I have a beautiful office. I just got it in Aug, and left in Oct, so I haven't got to use it too much yet, but I'm excited to!

3) How long do you spend writing each day (or week if daily is not possible)

It really depends on the week and what I have going on. Some weeks I'll dedicate my entire day off to writing, and write after work each day. Some weeks I don't write at all.

4) What holds you back from writing? (writer's block, work, children, no computer, etc.)

At home it would be work, kids, hubby… here, it would be work, or just needing a break.

5) What would your ideal "day as an author" consist of?
I love going to events and spending time with readers and other authors, so if I could write in the morning, then spend some time on social media, followed by an event or signing with an after party that night, that would be awesome!

6) What would you like readers and aspiring authors to know about "being an author".

Writing the book is just the beginning… You really have to be willing to work hard, market yourself and your book, and deal with not only negativity from the outside, but self-doubt. I promise you though, in the end, it is all worth it!

Great advice! Thanks to Bethany for giving us the peek into her life :)
