Loner Vahn Silver is an outcast and likes it that way. Living in the shadows, Vahn forces himself into the light to protect Keeley from the man who killed his best friend - even if that means risking his own life.

Excerpt:

I slipped back into the shadows. If they knew I watched them, I wouldn’t be allowed to come back and then all my plans would be for nothing. Downing the rest of my drink, I crushed the cup in my hand before tossing it over my shoulder as I headed out. There wasn’t anything else I’d find out tonight; they were all too sloshed or tight lipped to do me any good. Damn parties anyway; I hated them, but it was the only way to scout out all the players and hopefully discover what I knew, deep down, happened to my best friend. Their secrets were the only thing that could crush them and bring justice to Christie’s death.
Thinking back to how she spent her last year of life infuriated me. As seniors in high school we were supposed to have fun, live life, plan for our future, but all of those plans changed when she met Steve. Slowly, day by day, he fed her a world of lies and deception until there was no turning back. Now, a year later, I was still trying to prove her death wasn’t an accident, and that Steve was to blame. I owed it to her. Before all the lies and all the drugs, she was my closest friend. There was a time I even thought we might be more, but that wasn’t in her plans; she wanted someone different, someone who wasn’t me. I’d like to think the drugs made her stay with Steve, but the more I learned about him, the more I knew drugs weren’t the only thing that kept her from me.
I fished around in my pocket for my keys . The room spun, and I had to close my eyes to stay standing. My heart raced. What was wrong? I took another step but lost all balance and stumbled out the door.
I pulled my phone out, squinting as I tried to focus enough to dial out. I held it to my ear and waited. “Dad,” I said when he answered. “Something’s wrong. I need a ride.” My voice sounded miles away and fuzzy. Silently, I prayed he would understand as I rattled off what I hoped was the correct address. I couldn’t even remember what house I was at anymore. He said he’d be there soon so I hung up the phone and  sat down in the yard to wait.
My parents were like everyone else and thought I was just in denial over Christie’s death, and that I wanted someone to blame. Damn right I wanted someone to blame.
Ugh, my head hurt so bad that all I wanted to do was lay down. The grass was cool and begged to be used for a pillow. It took only seconds before the world darkened, and life as I knew it changed.

About the Author

M.R. Polish was born in Idaho, a long, long, long, maybe not that long time ago.... Writing has always been there for her. Growing up, her mind was filled with stories, some she shared and others she filed away to write down later in life. It wasn't until 2011 that she decided to publish her stories for everyone to enjoy. Her first award and when writing became more than just an idea was in the 5th grade. She won the scary story contest for the school newspaper. It is one story she still has tucked away for memories. Her teacher told her she could be anything she wanted and that she had a talant for writing, being creative and drawing people into her stories. M.R. took that to heart and continued to write, although mostly in secret until recent years.
Now you can find her enjoying life with her family - wrangling her four kids, setting traps in the house with toys for unsuspecting victims (aka, her husband) and writing down all her crazy and fun stories.

What I've been up to

There is no rest for the weary!! Along with working on my final edits for Soul of Asimina (which will be debuting it's beautiful cover in just a few short weeks!) I've also been doing research for a YA contemporary novel, working full time, and trying to find time to breath.

I've also been doing some fairly time intensive home repairs/updates. We've been waiting a while to replace the floor in our entry way, because the carpet was scary. Not only was that the dogs prime place to pee and poop toward the end (we always steam-cleaned it immediately afterward, but still, gah), but it was also the section that was soaked when our old water heater went kablooey and flooded the front hallway. You know it's going to be a long day when it's your first day back at work after 7 weeks of maternity leave and your foot sinks into water...on the carpet!

We started by ripping out the old carpet and exposing the wood flooring below.

My husband sweeping the floor. There was sooo much powder-fine dirt underneath the carpet pad (shudder). Now I see why people replace carpet every time they move.

I also discovered lovely carpet tack strips. Be extremely careful if you are removing these, because they are sharp.

Once all the carpet, tack strips, and staples were up, we were ready to lay down the floor. First, we put down some BlueHawk Underlayment. We didn't have to, but we wanted something between our new floor and the wood.

We bought 100 sq ft of Trafficmaster Allure flooring from Home Depot, and it is freaking awesome. It looks like wood, but is actually made of rubber. Waterproof, skidproof, and pretty dang resilient. It was slightly harder to put together than regular hard laminate floor, but still not bad.

We found the easiest thing was to link the pieces into long strips, then click the long strips together.

While we did that, Bug practiced hammering with her plastic hammer, golf tees, and a big block of styrofoam. Her grandma's task was keeping her away from our tools, not easy.

This was the annoying part. The wood molding actually goes all the way to the subfloor, so I had to use a special saw to make the bottom even with the rest of the molding. Then we had to cut the floor to fit into the small spaces, around the molding, etc.

But it's so worth it, because it's gorgeous!

Supernova release

Today, as part of the release of Supernova, I've been asked to share my superhero alter ego. Now, normally that's the kind of thing one should keep under lock and key, but since Elizabeth asked so nicely, I've decided to share my secret identity.

My superhero identity would be...Adaptor! (no, I did not misspell that, it was intentional).
See, I thought about being invisible and how awesome that would be, but then you run into the problem of people running into you, or dropping things on you, or when someone shuts the door on you because they don't realize you are behind them.

So instead...I adapt, to every situation and can blend in with any crowd. No matter where something is happening, I am there, and you would never even know it.

One important part of being an Adaptor is being able to change my physical appearance at will. Whether it be jeans and a t-shirt, a business suit, or thigh-high black boots, not only will you not notice me (until I take you down, so criminals beware!) but you also won't remember me afterwords (which can be a bummer, because it's very hard to get recognized for all of your good deeds when people don't remember you).

Want more superheroes? Ones with a bit more of a story? Then be sure to check out Supernova, the newest release from Elizabeth Sharp!

Mythology:The Wicked excerpt

“Right now I need you to measure souls like a guardian.”
I’ve done it lots of times before. It was one of the first things that Jonathan taught me to do after I transformed, and it has always come relatively easily to me.
Glad to give my attention to something else, I concentrate until I feel crackly dry heat right behind my eyes. Jonathan once told me that every guardian perceives a soul’s state a little differently; the way I see it is in the whites of someone’s eyes. Through experimentation and comparison, we determined that white means a healthy or “intact” soul while damage to me looks like jaundice of varying degrees.
Jonathan clears his throat, and when I look over at him, he makes a gesture with his hand. Like he’s waving me out there.
“What?” I say, my eyes widening.
“Pick one of them to save and cast your protection.”
My glance sweeps through the mourners again before coming to rest back on Jonathan. “You’re serious?”
“Perfectly,” he says patiently. “Choose one.”
He rests his elbows on his knees and looks down at his clasped hands. Apparently, today’s lesson starts now.

I get up and move away from him, weaving through the people who are mingling in the reception area and some who have already migrated into the chapel. He wants me to “choose one,” huh?

Release Day Excerpt:

She must sense my disinterest, because she rushes to say, “And your Connection is nice and strong. You’re very lucky to have been able to foster that relationship from such an early age.”
Whoa. What now? Connection? “Do you mean the one with my brother?”
I have a Connection with my brother, thanks to being Magical identical twins and all. But it’s not like a real Connection, not like the kind my parents had or Joey and Hannah’s. Not a romantic one, anyway.
“Oh, well, yes, there’s that Connection too.” The Seer nods, biting the end of her pen. Then she yanks it back out, irrational embarrassment taking over once more. “I guess I overlooked that one, since I’ve never seen one between siblings before. No—I meant your Connection.”
My brain sort of goes static-y. “I guess I’m confused here. If you’re not referring to Kellan, then what . . . uh . . . Connection are you talking about?”
She looks down at the yellow legal pad, as if it somehow has answers. “Surely you know about your Connection? I mean, you’ve already been on that road with her, and have been since you were very young.”
My heart starts racing, like it does when I run. But I’m not running. I’m sitting in a yellow chair in a Seer’s office and I’m dizzy and my heart is racing and I’m having a tough time catching my breath. “Elaborate,” I squeak. And it goes to show just how thrown off balance I really am, because I don’t even even care that I’m squeaking like a twelve-year-old going through puberty to some pretty girl.
The Seer’s eyes widen. “Has no one explained this to you?”
I clear my throat once, twice. “I know that my brother and I have a Connection, but I wasn’t aware I had another one. Nobody . . .” I’m forced to clear it a third time. “Nobody has two Connections.”
“Well, uh . . . it’s true that I’m not aware of anyone else having two, but . . .” She blinks at me, scratches her head. “You do. You’re in love with her already, right?”
How could she know that? Can Seers tell that? Can they actually sense emotions, like I can? Can they physically tell that someone is in love, simply by looking at their paths? Because, if that’s the case, this is—
“You’ve known her nearly your whole life,” Sera says, interrupting my internal high-octane rationalizations. “I’m positive of it. You’ve been in love with your Connection for a very long time.”
If somebody had smashed a brick down on my head during this moment, I wouldn’t have been more surprised. So I sound like a total idiot when I blurt out, “You mean she’s real?”
It’s the first time I’ve ever said anything about the girl I’ve called Chloe out loud, to anyone. EVER.
“Well, of course,” the Seer says. And then she has the audacity to laugh. At me. Because I’m too . . . I don’t know. Slow? Stupid? Naïve? To grasp what she thinks is basic Magical Info 101. Normally, this would piss me off royally, but right now, I temper that annoyance down because I’m pretty sure if she doesn’t answer my questions, I’m going to have a full-fledge meltdown right here in her office. It’s been weeks—scratch that, MONTHS—since I last saw or heard from the girl in my dreams. Even if this Seer can give me the smallest bit of info, I’m completely willing to let her think I’m the biggest idiot on the Human plane. “No one has a Connection to an imaginary Magical,” she finishes lamely.
THUD. Another brick smashes down on my apparently thick skull. My voice drops to a whisper. “She’s a Magical?”
Jesus. Now I’ve basically turned into a parrot.
The Seer cocks her head to the side. “I don’t understand . . .?”
And then everything in me, everything I’ve felt for this girl my whole life floods me, and it’s too much, way too much, so the dam bursts forth and finally, finally, the truth comes rushing out. I don’t think I can stop the words even if I wanted to, and right now, here—I don’t want to. “I’ve . . . I’ve dreamed about this girl my whole life. I never knew she was real, though. I mean—I hoped she was, but . . .”
Sera gets this dreamy look, and a flash of envy streaks through her. “OH! You’ve got a doorway! Lucky, lucky! So very rare.” Her smile is the rueful, conspiratorial one now. “What most Magicals wouldn’t do for one.”
She knows about . . . “The doorway?”
Kill me now, because there’s more of the parroting.
The Seer blushes violently now. If I wasn’t so, oh, I don’t know, BLOWN AWAY, I just might be annoyed or amused at the fact that she’d just wished she’d had a doorway with me. But I have no time for these shenanigans. “How do you know about the doorway?”
It’s her turn to clear her throat. “Um, it’s . . . one of the ways some people with Connections meet? Like I said, it’s rare, maybe two percent of all Connection cases are like this. So . . .” She scratches her upper arm. “You’re the first person I’ve met with a doorway, though. Have you met her in person yet?”
                YET?
I go lightheaded right before the ground below me moves.

Cover reveal- Amber's Faerie Tale

You asked for it, you've got it...Amber's story!  If you haven't read Enlightened, it is recommended to read that book before reading this novella.  As a matter of fact, if you haven't read it...don't read the synopsis of this book....or pay attention to the title.  By continuing to read, you're taking it into your own hands that you're reading a spoiler.  Don't write me and say you had no idea and now you're scarred for life.  Nope, you can't say those things.

You're reading at your own risk.  I'm warning you to turn your eyes and run and read the first two books before going any further.

Amber, the sassy sidekick to Jessie Lucente has met her match the day she meets bad boy Thorne.  They've gone on a few dates, but Thorne is Jessie's guardian and he has a mission to protect her at all cost.  He's able to handle Amber's sarcasm and dishes it back, to her dismay.  They are just learning how to juggle dating and Thorne's guardian schedule when Amber is abducted during a school dance.
'
Amber knows her abductors have a schedule, and if she isn't rescued before time is up, she'll die.  She doesn't fear death, she fears the pain it will cause her friends and Thorne.  When Amber's brother died she thought of nothing else but taking her own life, but knew how much it would hurt her family.  The only problem now is she has something and someone to live for; but she refuses to fear the end.

This isn't a love story full of sweet kisses and adoring teens, so if you're looking for that kind of faerie-tale, read about Jessie and Caleb.
